After over 2 decades of being on this earth I have finally learnt to embrace my "naturalness". My natural hair, my real nails, my shape everything.
My natural hair had always been a source of endless doubt for me, while I liked it I didn't love it. I liked it because it was safe it was what I knew. I know now that I remained natural because I was scared as hell. Scared that I'd try the creamy crack and my hair would disappear. But even with that ever present fear I thought many times of perming it and saying good riddance to the frustration of detangling after a wash and finding ways to style them. I still yearned for the apparent easiness of permed hair.
At the point when my frustrations were becoming overwhelming a voice of reason came to me through a fellow natural sister who put me unto YouTube. She said "Anything u want to know u can probably find on youtube". I was blown away. I spent the entire summer watching other natural sisters on youtube trying in their own little way to educate the black female masses who wanted to know about natural hair care and styling. I have learnt a whole lot and because of this new knowledge I've come to look at my hair in a whole new light. I am natural now because I love it, love it for its versatility and beauty.
I'm more confident about my natural tresses and I think it comes across to the people around me because the compliments are coming fast and furious. Now when compliments come I am able to accept them graciously.
So whether you are already natural or thinking about going natural make certain its for the right reasons.
